032 - Old Chain of Rocks Bridge (St. Louis, MO)

Dangerous parking, but a neat place to visit.  There were a lot of people here taking pics of the cake, the bridge, and the old car seen in the background.  This site warrants another visit so we can walk out on the bridge.

031 - General Daniel Bissell House (St. Louis, MO)

Easily distracted at this point.  It's a nice house.

030 - Fort Belle Fontaine (St. Louis, MO)

This was one of the coolest places we visited today.  After signing in at a guard shack, we followed the narrow roads until we came to this area overlooking the Missouri River.  We took the pic of the cake and then looked over the edge of the stone wall and saw incredible stone steps leading down a few levels before reaching the road below.  We walked to the bottom and back up.  As we approached the top, a couple of men in tuxedos came down the steps, slightly surrealistic until we got back to the top and saw an entire wedding party just arriving to take pics.

Did you know there are two cakes at this location?  Halfway down, the kids found a stone area with some stones stacked in the middle of it.  We're guessing it was an STL anniversary cake from the 1800's that they forgot to remove, haha.  (Not sure what the kids were doing with their faces in this pic.)

029 - West Alton Memorial Park (West Alton, MO)

Thanks goodness for GPS.  This cake was seemingly in the middle of nowhere.  Notice the "staff" he found on our short walk to this cake.

028 - Alton City Hall (Alton, IL)

We had to take a pic of him sitting on the handrail too.

027 - Lincoln-Douglas Square (Alton, IL)

She wanted to look like she had the cake in her hand.  Instead, she's holding up Abe's chair.  I like "Welcome to Alton" on the silos in the background.  As we left, he said Stephen Douglas looked like an angry fellow.

026 - Piasa Bird (Alton, IL)

People before us and after us took their pics with this cake.  This seems to be a popular thing to do.

025 - Alton Visitors Center (Alton, IL)

His second wind was kicking in.

024 - Robert Wadlow Statue (Alton, IL)

The statue of the tallest person ever can be seen in the background.  Along with his big chair.  To give an idea of how tall he was (8' 11"), his cane was as tall as she is.  We were a bit rushed at this one because I had to park in a no-parking zone.  Again, no ticket.

023 - National Great Rivers Museum (Alton, IL)

There was another family taking pics of the cake when we got there.  We ended up seeing them two more times on our route.  It was a nice day for a drive and sightseeing.

022 - Confluence Tower (Hartford, IL)

It's hard to get a smile from a "starving" seven-year-old.  After this stop, we ate lunch on our way to the next cake.

021 - Lewis & Clark State Historic Site (Hartford, IL)

We were at the Lewis & Clark Historic Site two months ago and saw this cake in the entryway.  We didn't know what it was for.  Until last weekend.  So this was just a quick stop to take the pic and head to the next cake.  As we left, an elderly couple asked if the museum was closed (they had seen us walk in and right back out).  I told him we were just there to take a pic with the cake.  He said, "Cool."

020 - Madison County Courthouse (Edwardsville, IL)

As we approached the courthouse, traffic got thicker, certain roads were closed, and then we saw some street fair thing going on.  We parked a couple of blocks away and walked to the courthouse.  The closer we got, the louder the music got.  And then we found the cake.  And the singer.  We didn't expect them to be right next to each other.  So this pic was taken a short distance from the cake.  You never know what to expect.

019 - Southern IL University Edwardsville (Edwardsville, IL)

SIUE is a large campus.  And the cake is kind of hidden from the road.  So after circling a few times, I decided to take my chances and park in a permit-only lot.  After a short walk we found the cake.  We quickly returned to the car.  No ticket today.

018 - Cahokia Mounds (Collinsville, IL)

Again, she wasn't happy with them switching sides.  After this pic, we hiked up Monks Mound before heading to the next cake.

017 - World's Largest Catsup Bottle (Collinsville, IL)

First cake visit of the day.  Quick side note, if you or someone you know are interested in buying the World's Largest Catsup Bottle, it's for sale.
